Toby Buckland's Garden Festival , Powderham Castle. 4th May 2019

Dart Music Festival, Dartmouth. 11th May 2019

I'm going to be playing a handpan performance at the stunning Flavel Church at 12.00pm followed by a mixed percussion workshop at 3pm.

The workshop will include a short talk about the various percussion instruments that we will be using, including handpans, various West African drums, bells and shakers and cajons. We will be learning a rhythm called 'Yankadi' - a popular rhythm from Mali, which means ‘it is good to be here’. Time permitting, we will also hopefully touch on its more energetic partner rhythm, Macru. Whilst teaching the traditional arrangements of these rhythms, I have adapted them to play using various traditional as well as non-traditional instruments.

Although suitable for all, the pace of the workshop will be aimed at people who are not experienced percussionists.
